We have lived here for 8 years. We've taken our little ZuZu to Dr. Cary Buchman at Animal Hospital of Havasu about 10 times. She's had her share of ear itching, DRY eyes, major teeth work (7 pulled and thorough cleaning), and her yearly vaccinations. I am very happy with the staff, the Dr. and the hospital.
1. Easy to find and plenty of close parking. 2. Very busy but very courteous and caring staff. 3. Clean Lobby with a usable scale and a few products for sale. 4. Always smells clean
5. The lobby and the rooms always appear and smell clean! 6. Dr. Buchman is KIND, PERSONAL, THOROUGH, GENTLE, AND HONEST. When ZuZu got a few pounds over weight, he flat out told me (nicely) "She needs to lose some weight, I can't feel her ribs here and she's too little to weigh 17#." I loved it, I cut back on her feedings and walked her more. She now weighs #15 and when he saw her, he was much happier! Some dog owners don't like hearing this ( I've heard them sound offended in the parking lot ) well that is silly to take it out on the VET, he's doing his job. If you've never done anything with your 10 yr old dogs teeth, and you're looking at a $1,000 procedure, it's not the fault of the VET. He's doing his job. When ZuZu had an eye closure and he wasn't sure what it was and tried 5 different tests, but each time he told me, "I'd like to do this test", he'd do it, come back in 5 min and say... "well, it's not the pressure, it's not the retina damage, etc" But he asked me each time because we ALL wanted to figure it out. He gave me strict orders to apply these TACROLIMUS drops 2x a day and she got immediately better! THEY CARE at this office. They are VERY VERY busy, especially in the winter when our Snow Birds come. ( So many of them bring their dogs obviously ) Many people get upset because it's hard to get in. Well, you have to call in advance, be patient, and expect that someone good is vey busy. We've never had an extreme emergency so I don't know how they handle that. I DO know that when I asked the DR about getting the snake venom vaccine ( I hike with her 4x wk) he told me that the cost was high and good for bigger dogs, but honestly her small size would probably not live through a rattlesnake bite. I appreciated him saying this. By the way, his cost from his hospital on meds is the same or lower than what I could get on line! I am not related to anyone that works here, I called 6 different VETS 8 yrs ago, when we moved here, and this staff was THE nicest and after visiting... I found OUR forever VET! Leslie
Dr Buckman and staff are on the ball most of the time. I understand they are over worked and under staffed, but when you need a vet, you need a vet. Not two weeks later whrn the symptoms have disappeared. There is still something going on but they don't seem to have any emergency opening. They need more help. I really like Animal Hospital of Ariona and Dr Buckman, but they need more help.
My family has 5 dogs and they all go to Dr Buckman. He is a very kind caring person with a great staff. One of our fur babies was very sick and we had to let her go. Dr Buckman took her in the back did what he needed to do and then brought her back in the room. He laid on the floor with us and explained everything she was going through and how beautiful and peaceful it was. He let us stay there as long as we needed. He has a beautiful heart for all animals and there family. His office also has reasonable prices for service.
