Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Nel Chu is a San Diego transplant from the greater Los Angeles area where she went to veterinary school at Western University of Health Sciences, class of 2010. She had always longed to be a veterinarian, but the calling didn't come until later in life. She was born in Vietnam during the war when her dad had the American dream to venture to California. There she studied at UCI, got a bachelor of arts in Sociology and worked in many different areas of work that included: sales, banking, clinical psychology, teaching, & training. After 6 years in human resources, she knew there was more in store for her. She took 3 years of prerequisites to pursue a career in the health industry where she volunteered in pharmacies, equine hospitals, and small animal hospitals and she was hooked! She was determined to do whatever it took to get to veterinary school.During vet school she found a great interest in world health as she did an independent externship in Morocco at the American Fondouk for a month to offer free veterinary healthcare to dogs, cats, donkeys, horses, birds, and rabbits. Her other interests include dermatology and ophthalmology. She now gets to pursue her lifelong dream by working with animals and people to strengthen the human- animal bond.In her spare time, she likes to garden, play tennis, hike, practice yoga, craft, paint, travel, and spend time with her 2 dogs, Munchies and Peony and three cats Linus, Lucy, and Sasha.
