Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Jennifer Keil has lived in the San Lorenzo Valley most of her life. After graduating from San Lorenzo Valley High School, she went on to Cabrillo College, and later completed her Bachelors degree in Cellular, Molecular and Developmental Biology with a minor in psychology at UC Santa Cruz in 1998. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from UC Davis in 2002. Dr. Keil first began working at Felton Veterinary Hospital in 1989 as kennel staff, moving up to a nursing poisition once she finished high school, she continued working through college and during school breaks throughout veterinary school. She also worked as an emergency veterinary nurse at Pacific Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Service in Capitola and at United Emergency Animal Clinic of South San Jose. Upon completion of her DVM degree, she worked for 2 years at Ocean View Veterinary Hospital in Pacific Grove before returning to Felton full time. Dr. Jens interest in veterinary medicine began as a young child, growing up in a ranching community in Oregon before moving to Ben Lomond in 1985. She assisted on neighbors and friends ranches caring for goats, sheep, and cattle. During veterinary school, she volunteered on the Colic Team and Foal Team to enrich her interests in both large and small animals. Her own menagerie of pets has included dogs, cats, goats, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, fish, and a box turtle. She currently shares her home with a pitbull mix named Lenny, Violet the Boston terrier, 5 cats and a fresh-water aquarium. She has been known to take home orphaned kittens that need bottle-feeding and nursing care in order to make them strong enough to become adoptable. The variety of general practice keeps her feeling enriched. She loves taking on surgical cases, yet also enjoys the details of a complicated internal medicine case. She can jump right into an emergency, and also enjoys getting to know her patients and their families throughout all life stages. When she is not practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Keil can often be found tending to her garden, or creating something in her kitchen, mainly baking. She loves living in the mountains and is happy doing any activity involving creeks & rivers. Her family still lives in the area, so she remains close with her mom and spends a lot of time with her 2 sisters and 4 nephews.
