Veterinarian Overview
Graduating from Colorado State University in 1970, Dr Mike McCoy interned at the San Diego Zoo. Dr McCoy co-founded, along with the Sierra Club Project Wildlife. He is one reason why we still have the Yellowstone Bison Herd and later became the head Veterinarian at the Henry Zoo in Omaha Nebraska. Along with his wife Patricia, the McCoys were instrumental in the establishment of the South San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge, The Tijuana Slough National Wildlife refuge, the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, and helped in designating the Tijuana Estuary as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. He is still active today both at the hospital and saving the wild.
