Veterinarian Overview
A native of San Diego, California, Dr. Stephen P. Sawyer is a General Practitioner who has been practicing with Jamul Veterinary Hospital since January of 2006. ?Soon after enrolling in college I began working for Dr. Katzer here at Jamul Veterinary Hospital during my first semester in college as a kennel cleaner,? he says. ?As time went by I gained more and more experience to the point where I was later able to help assist with surgery and after-hours emergencies. In all, the experience of helping to treat and rehabilitate the pets directed me to pursue a lifelong career in veterinary medicine.? In 1995, Dr. Sawyer enrolled in The University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom where he earned a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (The U.K.?s equivalent of a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine) in 2001. Upon graduation, he worked for four-and-a-half years in the counties of Surrey and Gloucestershire in a mixed animal practice and then in a small animal practice where he was able to hone his medical and surgical skills. Dr. Sawyer?s areas of particular professional interest include pain management, surgery, dentistry, radiology and medicine. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, California Veterinary Medical Association, and the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association. At home, Dr. Sawyer has a Yorkshire Terrier named Sampson. His interests include organic gardening, playing golf with his dad and friends, going to sporting events, regular reunions with his high school friends, hiking and camping, body surfing and reading.
