Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Dougherty is a central valley native. She grew up in Modesto and displayed a fascination with animals from a young age. Her folks tolerated a parade of animals including: hermit crabs, snakes, lizards, cats, an iguana, and even a crayfish who lived in a kiddie pool in the back yard for several years. Dr. D earned her bachelors degree in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience from UCSD and her DVM from Purdue in Indiana. She practiced medicine in Turlock for 8 years, and after a brief stint living and working in the Bay Area, returned to the Central Valley to pursue her dream of practice ownership and purchased Madera Veterinary Center in 2013. Dr. Dougherty is married to Steve, the finance manager and co-owner of Madera Veterinary Center. They have an active 5 year old daughter and a mellow 3 year old son. She currently owns an English Bulldog named Keyser and adopted a cat from the Madera County Shelter named Tuna. Dr. D enjoys meeting all of Madera Veterinary Center's great clients and becoming an active member of the Madera community. In her limited time away from MVC, Dr. D enjoys going to her family's cabin in Sequoia National Park, spending time with family, reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy books and veterinary articles, and watching the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones
