Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Harms grew up in Southern California among the orange orchards. Early interests included accumulating the largest variety of animals possible and trying to keep the snakes from escaping their cages. At 17 years of age he got a job at a local animal hospital, and he continued working there throughout his undergraduate studies at California State University, San Bernardino. He is still thankful for the skills he learned in that early exposure to veterinary medicine. Dr. Harms attended veterinary school at the University of California, Davis, where he graduated with honors. During veterinary school, he was a president of both his class and the equine health club, and was involved in equine infectious disease research projects. After veterinary school, Dr. Harms completed an internship at Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center. He is currently responsible for Sierra Equine as part of the LBEMC family. Professionally, Dr. Harms enjoys the wide variety of general practice, and finds special interest in wound management and the early diagnosis and treatment of disease. He is also involved in many endurance rides, rodeos, and horse shows in Northern California. Dr. Harms lives with his wife and two boys in Penn Valley, where they enjoy the wonderful community and natural beauty of Nevada County. He also enjoys trail riding on Trooper (his Kiger Mustang), cycling, playing music, and tinkering in the garage.
