Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Melcon joined the staff of Marina Pet Hospital in 1978. Originally from San Rafael, Calif., Dr. Melcon attended the University of California at Davis, where she majored in veterinary medicine. After two years of undergraduate study, she entered the veterinary school professional program and graduated in 1977. Dr. Melcon completed her internship at the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital from 1977 to 1978. Dr. Melcon is interested particularly in emergency and critical care, ultrasonography, feline medicine and internal medicine. She is a member of the Companion Animal Memorial Program at the Center for Companion Animal Health; the American Association of Feline Practitioners; the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society and the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital Referral Program. Dr. Melcon and her husband, David, have four children: Joshua, 23; Noah, 20; Erin, 18 and Alexa, 14. She and David, a teacher and sheep shearer, home-school their children. Dr. Melcon is also the proud owner of two dogs, four cats, two goats, a sheep, a horse and 27 chickens. When she's not working with animals or teaching her children, Dr. Melcon enjoys dressage riding, quilting, embroidery, knitting, sailing and renovating her house.
