Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Rachel Mills grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. She started working for her family vet when she was 13 and never looked back. She received her bachelor's degree in Biology from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and her DVM from UC Davis. She completed a small animal internship at PetCare, a specialty, emergency, and general practice hospital in Santa Rosa, California. Dr. Mills' interests include behavior, preventative care, dentistry, and internal medicine. She is currently expanding her dog training and behavior expertise through The Academy For Dog Trainers. Dr. Mills has also volunteered with several animal welfare organizations, including the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, the Portland Audubon Wildlife Care Center, and two organizations providing services to the animals of the homeless. She has a passion for wildlife, and has provided veterinary support for studies of ring-tailed lemurs in Madagascar, and finches in the Galapagos. Dr. Mills shares her home in South Lake Tahoe with her partner Leo, their daughter Tenaya, 3 dogs (Cosmo, Shep, and Alika), and her crazy cat, Scout. She enjoys hiking, climbing, cross-country skiing, gardening, and learning about the birds and plants of the Tahoe Basin. She hopes to figure out a way to grow really great tomatoes in South Lake Tahoe.
