Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Kalthoff graduated with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Science in 1984 from the University of Idaho. He then attended Washington State University where he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. While attending Washington State University, Dr. Kalthoff participated in an advanced training program in emergency medicine and critical care. Upon graduation, Dr. Kalthoff continued to work in the field of emergency medicine and critical care, first in Longview, Washington, and then when he moved to Southern California. He managed an emergency clinic in Orange County for five years and then worked for four years at an advanced veterinary diagnostic and treatment facility in Fountain Valley. In 1993, he left emergency medicine and purchased a private small animal practice in Vista, California, along with Dr. Kenneth Porte who was a veterinary school classmate. In 2007, Dr. Kalthoff opened Butterfield Animal Hospital in Temecula. Dr. Kalthoff met his wife Angela while working in Longview, Washington. They have two children. They share their home with two dogs, a cat, and a parrot. Dr. Kalthoff enjoys volunteering at the San Diego Maritime Museum where he assists with maintenance of the tall sailing ships, is an active sailor, and serves as the mizzen mast captain on the H.M.S Surprise. He and his wife enjoy photography, culinary adventures, and wine tasting.
