Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Matthew Carter wanted to be a veterinarian from a very early age. He graduate of UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995, after first attending Long Beach City College and California State University Long Beach. Post-graduation he has also served on the Santa Rosa Junior College Registered Veterinary Technician Advisory Committee as well as teaching veterinary technology courses at SRJC. He has worked in both large and small animal areas including large dairies, beef and some equine practice, small and exotic pets, on-call emergency duty and general family pet practice. He realized that he most enjoyed meeting other members of his community and helping them with the health and needs of their furry family members. He is co-owner of Petaluma's Central Animal Hospital where he has repeatedly been voted the best veterinarian by the local community, as well as the Best of the North Bay Sonoma County veterinarian by the readers of the Bohemian. Dr. Carter is a California native and spent some years in various locations including the Central Valley, the East Bay, Half Moom Bay, Orange County and London, England before settling in Petaluma in 2002. Dr. Carter has lived and worked in Petaluma since that time, along with his wife and twin daughters, cat Mylo and dog Elsie. Dr. Carter is very active in his community from serving on the Petaluma Animal Services board, the Petaluma River Craft Beer festival board, he is an honorary member of the Petaluma Valley Rotary Club and a founding member of the Petaluma Moonrise Club. He has served as president of the Redwood Empire Veterinary Medical Association and has served on the Sonoma County Animal Welfare Advisory Committee. He has given many classroom lectures through the shelter's Humane Education program. He is very excited about getting to know the Windsor community through working at Wine Country Veterinary Hospital and is honored to have partnered with Dr. Klein as a co- owner. Dr. Carter loves to explore the food and wine opportunities throughout Sonoma County. He also likes to barbeque for family and friends, explore new flavors and if he can find any free time he loves to brew his own beer. He is an outdoor enthusiast where swimming, hiking and bicycling are his favorite ways to get exercise.
