Veterinarian Overview

Owner Dr. Christine Storts graduated with honors from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. She began her small animal practice career in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1990 she moved to Central Florida and worked at the Orange County Health Department, inspecting restaurants and drinking water well systems. She came to Brevard County in 1991 as a staff veterinarian and clinic manager at Animal Emergency Clinic of Central Brevard. In 1994 she purchased Atlantic Animal Clinic. Her practice interests include soft-tissue surgery, critical care and internal medicine. Dr. Storts stays involved in local animal welfare and wildlife issues, particularly working on committees and sitting on panels with Brevard County Animal Services, local humane organizations and concerned citizens addressing the problem of feral and free-roaming cats in our community. She was among a group of veterinarians that helped Brevard County develop a county spay/neuter program for those in need. Dr. Storts is a member of the Hubbs-SeaWorld Marine Mammal Stranding Network and she frequently rehabilitates baby squirrels and rescues ill or injured migrating and native seabirds. One of her favorite organizations is the Florida Wildlife Hospital in Melbourne. She is presently serving on the Board of Directors for the Florida Veterinary Medical Association and is president of her daughter's school board. Atlantic Animal Clinic is full of cats and kittens that have been abandoned, abused or neglected. The number of cats in residence usually unknown, as it changes daily. Dr. Storts will spay or neuter the kittens, provide vaccinations and parasiticides and place them in good homes. Several of the cats are unadoptable and therefore are considered permanent “clinic cats.” And of course, some of the favorites don’t get put up for adoption either. At home, Dr. S. and Gaby have squirrels named Merle and Philip, a toy poodle named Frere Jacque, a hairless rat named named Peachie, a Bearded Dragon named Jingles, a terrapin named Terry, a parakeet named Tweetie a betta fish and two dwarf hamsters. It’s hard for Dr. Storts to take a day off, so you will frequently see her wandering the clinic when she isn’t on duty. When she does take time off, she likes to spend it with her 9 year-old daughter Gaby. Her favorite place to go is Paris, France, to shop, sight-see, eat French food, sit in a sidewalk café and people-watch. Paris flea markets are the best places to shop; there are bargains galore, colorful characters and lively conversations en Francais. When she retires, that’s where she will be, with beret and scarf, sipping an afternoon café. But don’t expect that anytime soon, she plans to work until Gaby has finished veterinary school and taken over the family tradition
