Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Gwen Flinchum obtained her Bachelor of Science degrees in Poultry Science and Animal Science from North Carolina State University. While at North Carolina State she volunteered in the Poultry Science Department on a variety of research projects involving chickens and turkeys. After graduating from college, Dr. Flinchum went to The University of Florida where she obtained a Masters of Agriculture in Avian Physiology and then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. While in veterinary school she participated in externships and research projects to further her knowledge of avian medicine and surgery. Her externships were done at The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota and at Aviculture Breeding and Research Center in Loxahatchee, Florida. Research projects involved the development of a flamingo pox vaccine for flamingos at Sea World and fecal hemagglutination tests for the detection of Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease in parrots. During her senior year of veterinary school, she received the Kaytee Avian and Special Species Excellence Award. After graduating from veterinary school Dr. Flinchum was hired by Dr. Greg Harrison at The Bird Hospital (an avian exclusive practice) in Greenacres, Florida. She worked there for eight years and then started her own practice, All Bird Clinic of the Palm Beaches. All Bird Clinic is also an avian exclusive practice that sees a variety of avian breeds including parrots, doves and pigeons, passerines (canaries, finches), gallinaceous birds (chickens, turkeys, peafowl, guinea fowl), waterfowl and wild birds. Dr. Flinchum is board certified as an avian specialist by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. She is also a Full Charter Member of the International Veterinary Forensics Sciences Association. Dr. Flinchum has published a number of articles in avian and exotic medicine journals. She also co-authored chapters in the avian reference book "Clinical Avian Medicine" by Harrison and Lightfoot.
