Veterinarian Overview
I grew up in the Midwest and graduated from Michigan State University, first with a degree in Medical Technology, followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in1981. Like many new graduates, I spent the first part of my career in conventional veterinary clinical practice. That was followed by a stint with the Federal government for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services. At some point, I knew that that I wanted to come back to clinical medicine, but it wasn't until I took my first acupuncture course that I knew I'd finally "come home". I simply felt a deep connection to this beautiful and ancient form of medicine, and, quite suddenly, the world seen through this lens made sense to me. The rest, as they say, is history. I became certified in veterinary acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, and my acupuncture training became the springboard to extensive study in Chinese herbal medicine at the Tai Sophia Institute for the Healing Arts, followed by coursework in both veterinary chiropractic care and craniosacral therapy. And many, many hours of study in all of these modalities thereafter - my husband calls me his professional student! After owning a busy integrative veterinary practice in Maryland for numerous years, my husband and I made the decision upon his retirement to relocate to Ponte Vedra in late 2014. I have family here, and both of us were worn out by Maryland winters - we are not cold weather people! When asked if I was retired I always said, yes, at least for now, but I think I knew that I wasn't yet done. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to keep my hands, heart, and mind in this form of veterinary practice, with Dr. Jenna, and look forward to knowing you and caring for your beloved companions.
