Veterinarian Overview
I was born and raised in New York City, and then I moved to Florida with my family when I was in high school. I attended Edison College in Fort Myers, FL for three years and then moved to Gainesville, FL in 2006, where I started working as a veterinary technician. In 2008, I graduated from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) with a Bachelors degree in Animal Sciences, and in that same year, I married my high school sweetheart. I received a Certificate in Public Health from UF in 2009, and then I graduated from the UF College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Since that time, I have worked in a corporate-run small animal hospital that cares for dogs, cats, and the occasional pocket pet (my favorite would have to be the Guinea Pig). I am interested in many aspects of veterinary medicine, especially cardiology, dermatology, and dentistry. While I was in veterinary school, I took additional courses and clerkships beyond the schools curriculum in order to gain more experience with tooth extractions, dental radiography, and oral surgery. I also had lots of practice after graduation and attended additional courses on extraction technique during the North American Veterinary Conference in January 2015. In the near future, I plan on taking acupuncture courses because acupuncture can be utilized for many illnesses in pets. I love so much about my job, but what I really enjoy is my interaction with pets and their families! My interests outside of veterinary medicine include reading, cooking/baking, world history, and astronomy. I also love ballet and have been taking ballet classes since 2007. Performing on stage is scary but fun! I once had to go straight to a recital following a 26 hour shift at my vet school. I was so exhausted that I dont remember much about the performance except my wondering what my dance-classmates thought about me wearing scrubs in the costume changing room. My friends who attended the performance, however, assured me that I appeared quite graceful on stage.
