Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Doverspike opened Mesa Veterinary Hospital on January 23, 2012. He is originally from Punxsutawney, PA the home of one of the most famous animals in the country: Punxsutawney Phil of Groundhog Day fame. His interest in animals and veterinary care began very early. "My mom recommended it to me when I was just six years old and it stuck," he said. Dr. Doverspike began volunteering at veterinary hospitals in high school and started out as a veterinary technician while attending undergraduate college at Colorado State University. While earning his undergraduate degree in biological science, Dr. Doverspike minored in anatomy and neuroanatomy and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1999 from Colorado State University. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and completed a year of clinical rotations at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 2004. He has many professional interests including dermatology, dentistry, oral surgery, anesthesia, pain management, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, neurology, internal medicine and behavior. Dr. Doverspike is a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, the Jacksonville Veterinary Medical Society, the Veterinary Information Network, American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Colorado State National Honor Society. Dr. Doverspike has also become accredited as a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (CVPP) in 2013, and is also certified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In his spare time, Dr. Doverspike exercises his skill as an avid telemark skier and rock climber in Colorado. He enjoys learning how to surf in Florida. He also enjoys spending time with his dog Blubell, a rescued German Shepherd given to him by a client.
