Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Jennifer Hoffelmeyer, originally from Winterset, Iowa, grew up in rural Madison County and graduated from Winterset High School. Upon graduation, she attended Iowa State University, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in animal science before earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Jennifer practiced mixed animal medicine in Chariton, Iowa, before focusing her skills on small animal medicine while practicing at Banfield, The Pet Hospital in Clive, Iowa for three years. In April 2008, she began practicing in Adel, Iowa and became owner of The Animal Hospital of Adel in January 2013. For as long as she can remember, Dr. Jennifer wanted to be a veterinarian. She was always interested in math and science and grew up caring for multiple cats and dogs. Additionally, Dr. Jennifer spent a great deal of time shadowing local veterinarians and was a Madison County 4-Her where she exhibited 4-H calves at the county and state fairs. Today, Dr. Jennifer enjoys caring for small animals and has a special interest in canine reproduction. She is a professional member of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Society for Theriogenology. Dr. Jennifer is married to Peter, who is a programmer analyst at EMC Insurance Companies in Des Moines. In August 2008, they welcomed their first child, Ethan, who currently attends preschool, loves playing with trucks and tractors, working on mazes, and playing with his little sister, Lauren, born in May 2012. Lauren has a great temperament and adores her big brother! The Hoffelmeyer family is made complete with their many companion animals, including: Darby, a 10 year old yellow Labrador retriever who is a very smart, constant companion; Cassie, a seven year old Labrador mix who was adopted from the Chariton animal shelter and loves to track the kids every move; Simon, a lovable and easygoing 13 year old gray domestic shorthair; and Jake, a 10 year old gray domestic shorthair who does everything on his own terms. When shes not hard at work at the clinic, Dr. Jennifer enjoys relaxing at home while catching up on her favorite TV shows, seeing movies with her husband, visiting her sister and her family in Ankeny, playing four point pitch with friends, and reading books and playing games with Ethan and Lauren. As a family, they love attending Iowa State University sporting events, but when they cant make it to the games, they always watch on TV. Go Cyclones!
