Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Barbara Roland is a 1986 graduate of Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Following her graduation, she spent her first 18 years of practice at Frey Pet Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After moving to Grinnell in 2004, she practiced part time for a few yeras at Farm and Family Veterinary Clinics at their Brooklyn and Victor locations. For the past several years, she has been working part time and/ or filling in regularly at both the Newton Animal Clinic and the Bondurant Animal Clinic.At an Early age Dr. Roland know that she wanted to be a veterinarian. "I vividly remember when my kindergarten teacher asked everyone in the class what they wanted to be when they grew up, I answered with no hesitation- a veterinarian!" She has never had any second thoughts on her career path and she feels blessed to have benn able to follow her dreams. She enjoys all aspects of vertinary medicine, but she has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery and preventative care.Dr. Roland grew up in the Amana Colonies, and most of her family still reside there. She is married to Royal Roland, a Certified Public Accountant and together they have six wonderful choldren/ stepchildren; Nick Roland, Will Roland, Tessa Roland, Leah Roland, Ryan Rezabek, and Janelle Rezabek. She also has three grandchildren; Ethan, Delanie, and Jackson Roland.In her spare time she enjoys attending all the activitied that her children and grandchildren are involved in. She also spends many hours caring for and exercising her Standardbred horses and attending couty fairs all across Iowa. All summer long she races them in the sulky (harness) races. Wellness and fitness classes area daily part of her life as well as her participation in water aerobics, Zumba dance, power flow yoga, spinning and pilates classes. Her favorite event to attend is musical theater performances. Finally Dr. Roland loves caring for her four dogs, King Charles Cavalier Spaniels (Princess Nellie and Sadie Belle) and her border collies (roxie and Desiree). She also has many barn cats, who are all treasured feline companions. She is happy to meet people who love and care for their pets and hopes she can be of service to owners and patients alike.
