Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Cox is the owner and sole practioner of Black Sheep Veterinary Services. She runs the clinic out of her home with the assistance of her business manager, Brian. Rachel decided to become a veterinarian at a young age and was encouraged by her family in her endeavor to do so. After graduating from high school she attended Iowa Western Community College and obtained her Associate of Arts degree with a major in biology. She then attended Northwest Missouri State University where she received her Bachelor of Science, majoring in zoology and minoring in chemistry.Dr. Cox is a 2005 graduate of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Employment brought change as Rachel had spent twenty-two of her twenty-eight years in a classroom. She moved to Colorado and began working for Banfield, The Pet Hospital. Banfield was a wonderful opportunity for Dr. Cox as it gave her the ability to get her feet wet while having the guidance of an experienced mentor. Rachel enjoyed her time at Banfield but, six hundred miles is a long way to be from family. After two years, she said good-bye to her friends, co-workers and clients, and returned home to Iowa and her family. After a short search, Rachel found a position with the wonderful individuals at Angels Vet Express. This was another great learning experience. Angels focused on the pet and cost was secondary. Clients traveled from several states for the affordable care and this provided opportunity to see a variety of different cases. Rachel enjoyed having the ability to help not only pets but wildlife, too. Unfortunately, traveling sixty-five miles, one way, to work and being on call every other week wears on an individual so Dr.Cox left Angels and established Black Sheep Veterinary Services in 2011.
