Diplomate ACVIM (Neurology) Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Board Certified Neurology) Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree: College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University Small Animal Neurology / Neurosurgery Residency: College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University Dr. Potthoff, an Iowa native, began practicing veterinary medicine in Vermont at Brown Animal Hospital 26 years ago. After his neurology residency at ISU in 1988, Dr. Potthoff, his wife, daughters and son moved to Maine and founded The Animal Neurological Clinic and practiced emergency medicine at The Animal Emergency Clinic in Portland for four years. After 19 years, The Animal Neurological Clinic became Maine Veterinary Referral Center and Dr. Potthoff became very busy juggling a growing practice, his sons sports games, keeping up with his daughters in college, doing midnight surgeries, and spending time at his camp in Cundys harbor. These days Dr. Potthoff is beginning to enjoy the fruits of his labor. When not under surgery lights, Dr. Potthoff is perfecting his game on the golf green or cruising Casco Bay on his personal boat "Fritz". He has also adopted a passion for painting scenic ocean views; if you ask, he may send you a print.
