Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Nelson launched his career at PVPH in 1989 after graduating with honors from Kansas State University as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He worked for fifteen years with Dr. Bob Skinner, helping Dr. Skinner build a full-service pet hospital and urgent-care resource in a vibrant community known for love of family and pets.Dr. Nelson purchased the practice in 2005, investing in cutting-edge imaging and monitoring technologies to complement the medical, surgical and emergency services our clients value and expect. As he begins his 24th year of service to PVPH, he still relishes the people, pets and colleagues that make this leading practice so rewarding."Dr. Jim" has served on many boards throughout the local community, including institutional and state veterinary organizations. He also speaks frequently to students and fraternal organizations about the veterinary life. When not serving animals, he enjoys outdoor sports with his son Peter, a student at University of San Diego; his daughter, India, a freshman at Minnetonka High School, and Suzy, his high-spirited Shitzu/West Highland/Bichon cross.
