Dr. Allen was an honor graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, and was selected for a combined medical and surgical internship at Texas A&M. He also completed a three year residency training program in small animal surgery at the University of Minnesota.The recipient of multiple teaching awards, Dr. Allen has presented his research nationally. In addition to his residency, Dr. Allen spent time in a private practice before returning to St. Louis, where he has provided advanced small animal surgery in multi-specialty referral practices.With over 20 years of experience practicing orthopedics, oncologic, general, thoracoabdominal and neurosurgery, Dr. Allen is also highly skilled in radiology, anesthesiology/pain management, and clinical pathology. He is certified in Arthroscopy, Total Hip Replacement, ASIF bone-plating, external fixation, CRIF and BOP fracture repair techniques as well.With over 4,000 performed TPLO procedures for cruciate ligament repair, Dr. Allen has found this technique to be better than other treatment options.Dr. Allen is a pioneer in his field, as he invented an orthopedic re-tractor used specifically for an-terior cruciate ligament repair to allow better visualization and treatment of knee disorders.Dr. Allen has vast experience in the veterinary field, giving numerous lectures and presentations on a variety of subjects including urinary disorders, hip dysplasia, acupuncture, bone cancer, and disease to pain management. Dr. Allen is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Orthopedic Society, International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Information Network, and the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association.Dr. Allen enjoys the outdoors, as well as golf, racquetball, skiing, and fishing. He and his wife have two children and an orthopedically challenged Pug.
