Dr Sherburne helped me when my 17.2 hand Irish Thoroughbred suddenly became unstable on his feet. He was patient and kind with “Guinness” as well as with me. Even when Guinness made a sudden movement with his head, lost his balance, and all 2,000 lbs hit the deck, Dr Sherburne was totally calm. He told Guinness “good job”, that it would be easier to examine him down there, giving him a gentle stroke on the neck. Dr Sherburne was equally concerned about the welfare of the humans, counseling me not to go in the stall for my own safety. It was hard not to be able to be close to Guinness but the stalls had half walls allowing me to scratch his ears and love him up. In the end, Guinness had to be euthanized but I will always be grateful for the competent and compassionate care that he received from Dr Sherburne. They just don’t come any better than Dr Sherburne.
