Veterinarian Overview
While growing up in Great Neck, NY, Dr. Sheila Delijani would volunteer to walk neighborhood dogs for free just so she could spend time in their company. When she was 16, she started volunteering at an animal hospital and never looked back. She pursued a career in veterinary medicine, motivated by what she calls a love of science and nature, love and respect for all living creatures and the great desire to help them. Dr. Delijani earned her Bachelors degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Colgate University, and went on to earn her Masters degree in Biology at Long Island Universitys C.W. Post Campus. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. While there Dr. Delijani received the Small Animal Achievement Award. She also studied acupuncture at the Chi Institute. For Dr. Delijani, the bond with her clients and their pets is the most rewarding aspect of her profession. In fact, she keeps in touch with clients 10 years after she operated on their dog during the pets serious illness. The bond thats formed with the pet and their family and knowing theyve entrusted you with a very important member of their family is one of the things I love about being a vet, she says. Dr. Delijani is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York Veterinary Medical Society, the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. Her professional interests include internal medicine, dentistry, soft tissue surgery holistic/integrative medicine, and acupuncture. meow, What are you doing?, and singing Oh, what a beautiful morning. She and her husband Jason Samel have a son named Micah who also loves animals. In her free time Dr. Delijani enjoys music, traveling, scuba diving, movies, the outdoors and spending time with her family.
