Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Isabelle Louge grew up in Ithaca, NY and Rennes, France. Her interest in animals began in spending her summers on her grandmothers cow-calf operation in Najac, Aveyron and grew through riding at La Petite Hublais, Forêt de Rennes, France. During grade school she worked on therapeutic riding farms and dairies around Ithaca. She completed her senior year of high school shadowing veterinarians at Cornells veterinary school and learning about forestry and natural resources as a part of the New Visions Life Sciences program. As an undergrad in Animal Science at Cornells College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Dr. Louge worked as a riding instructor at Oxley Equestrian Center and did research on mastitis vaccines and the bovine immune system with Dr. Ynte Schukken. She also was an active member of the Cornell University Dairy Science club, even going with them to tour dairy operations in Italy. At Cornells veterinary school Dr. Louge focused on large animal medicine, even receiving the Zoetis Clinical Proficiency Award in Dairy Production Medicine. She learned more about dairy management and medicine through working as a student chief for the vet school teaching dairy and attending Summer Dairy Institute. Dr. Louge became a published author while participating in the Veterinary Investigators Program through her work on hypocalcemia in Dr. Jessica McArts lab through a grant from the NIH, and Merial. Dr. Louge also volunteered yearly at the Hector Half Hundred endurance race in Hector, NY where she helped assess horses as they crossed check points and developed an appreciation for endurance racing.
