Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Randy Alger is the owner and principle veterinarian of the Alger Veterinary Clinic. His interest in veterinary medicine began as he grew up on his familys farm in Mantua, Ohio. He showed dairy cattle in 4-H and eventually became a partner with his father and brother in the familys 400 cow Holstein dairy farm business. Randy attended The Ohio State University and obtained a degree in Agricultural Engineering in the area of Animal Structures and Environment prior to being admitted to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State. On graduation from veterinary school in 1984, with the help of mentors, he established the Alger Veterinary Clinic, an all large animal ambulatory practice. His interests in practice began with an emphasis in dairy cattle medicine. Currently he enjoys providing a variety of services for dairy and beef cattle, horses, small ruminants, and swine on farms ranging in size from one to one thousand animals. He is a member of AABP (cattle practitioners), AAEP (equine practitioners), AASRP (small ruminant practitioners), OVMA, and AVMA. Locally he is a member of the Mantua Township Board of Zoning Appeals and the Mantua Center Christian Church. He lives in Mantua with his son Stephen and enjoys hobby farming, skiing, and cycling in his spare time.
