Veterinarian Overview
Manya grew up in Southern California where her dream to become a veterinarian was realized early on. As an only child, she developed a special sort of bond with the animals in her lifeconsidering them to be more of siblings and friends rather than pets. Manya attended high school in Southern California where she was a decorated high school athlete in water polo and swimming and an Academic All American. She went on to study at California State University East Bay where she played Collegiate Division III water polo and served as the Academic Ambassador for her university. She graduated, with honors, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with an option in Forensics and a minor in Chemistry. Manya moved to Boston after graduation and took up work as a full time veterinary nurse and part time water polo coach. After a few years in the field as a veterinary nurse, she attended veterinary school at The University of Melbourne in Australia where she graduated with honors and acquired a love for mixed animal medicine and small animal surgery. She continues to represent her alma mater as an international ambassador and has travelled around the country talking to pre-veterinary students. She completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship in a very busy speciality and emergency hospital in Southern California where she fell in love with veterinary ophthalmology. She then joined the team at The Animal Eye Institute to further develop her love and knowledge of comparative ophthalmology. Her current goals are to obtain a residency in veterinary ophthalmology and to eventually go on to specialize within the field. She has a special interest in ophthalmic clinical signs as they relate to systemic disease and all aspects of ophthalmic surgery. Manyas interests outside of veterinary medicine include trail running and hiking with her dog , salsa dancing, pilates, yoga, surfing, water polo, travel and live music events. She is the proud owner of Atreyu, a 2 year-old Husky. So far she is enjoying life in the midwest, with her favorite parts being the autumn leaves, fireflies and the enthusiasm for the local sports teams. She is looking forward to working with the Animal Eye Institute team and hopes to help increase the quality of vision and life for all the wonderful patients here.
