Surely this man is retired by now. I was a vet assistant with him and Dr. Detjen in 1970-1971, I credit James Sewell for starting my career as a whistle-blower. The man has an anger issue. We'd just finished a medium-sized dog neuter, and Sewell put him in one of the large kennels near the floor to let anesthesia wear off. He closed the door, but the dog's head flopped back out. He pushed the dog farther back and the head flopped out again. Once again he positioned the dog, and this time the muzzle flopped out. Sewell got really angry and kicked the door to shut it. Unfortunately, the edge of the door broke the dog's muzzle, and the dog had to be put down. Sewell threatened me to keep quiet about this, called the owners and lied to them about the cause of death, and called the rendering truck to pick up the animal before the owners could. Then he left on farm rounds. I wrapped the dog in it's blanket, put it in my car, called the owners to tell them what really happened, copied the last page of the dog's chart, and took the dog to the owner's house. Obviously, I was fired, the owners retained legal counsel, and all hell broke loose. My only regret is that the OK vet board allowed him to continue to practice despite cruelty and an attempt to cover up that cruelty. I graduated from GHS the following year, and decided against going to OSU to become a veterinarian.
