Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Bianca Shaw has almost 20 years of experience and a proven track record in traditional veterinary medicine and animal physical therapy. She received her DVM degree from the University of Minnesota and has attended the animal rehabilitation program through the University of Tennessee, as well as the Canine Rehab Institute. As the first veterinary therapist in the Portland/Vancouver area, Dr. Shaw's experience with pet physical therapy and rehab patients is unsurpassed. Prior to starting Back on Track Veterinary Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Shaw worked throughout the Pacific Northwest as a general practice and relief veterinarian.Her drive to develop a comprehensive therapy center was initiated after her dog, Boz, needed extensive orthopedic repair after a car accident. Having no place to rehabilitate him and no person to give her instruction on how to perform specific rehab herself, Dr. Shaw recognized a lack of expertise and a greatly unmet need in the community. As a result, she has spent years training to fill this void and has now treated thousands of patients with dozens of different mobility issues.Dr. Shaw is active in numerous groups across the nation and has participated in many physical therapy seminars in an effort to obtain the best and most current information available on animal rehabilitation. She is often a guest speaker at dog clubs and associations. She is active in the Portland Veterinary Medical Association having served as Treasurer and a Board member. Her community commitments include: aiding in the development of an emergency animal disaster plan for Portland and the surrounding areas; Oregon Humane Society disaster and animal rescue programs; Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon clinics; homeless pet clinics sponsored by Outside-In; and the American Red Cross.
