Veterinarian Overview

Dr. Robin Carlson is motivated and passionate about providing care for Amarillo area pets. Prior to attending vet school, Dr. Carlson was a level III NICU nurse. After practicing as a nurse for 10 years, she decided to return to school to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She graduated from Oregon State College of Veterinary Medicine with her DVM in 1997. Dr. Carlson continued her education with an internship in equine surgery at Chino Valley Equine hospital in Chino, CA. She then married her husband Steve Carlson, who is also a veterinarian, and moved to Visalia, CA. Dr. Carlson performed small animal surgery at Hanford Veterinary Clinic and also had her own bovine emergency and embryo transfer practice in Visalia. In 2003 the family began a new endeavor. They moved to Iowa where they owned a dairy. Dr. Carlson performed any surgeries needed on the dairy and was a surgeon at Hometown Veterinary Clinic. In 2009 they sold the dairy and moved to Texas. Since moving to Amarillo, Dr. Carlson has worked in a couple of different practices. In October of 2013 she opened Bushland Small Animal Veterinary Clinic. The practice grew rapidly and in August of 2017 was relocated to it’s current location. This clinic was built by Dr. Carlson in a manner that will allow for expansion and that will allow Dr. Carlson and staff to continue to provide state of the art care for the pets in and around Amarillo. Dr. Carlson also has many outside interests. She likes to sew, paint, and work with wood. Dr. Carlson has taken part in some important missionary work throughout her career. She was a Missionary to Portugal and Kenya as a nurse. She also took a short mission trip to Kenya as a veterinary student. In 2016 she returned to Africa, where she taught small animal spay and neuter surgeries to veterinary students in Kampala, Uganda. Besides her patients, Dr. Carlson’s pride and joy is centered on her family. She has a hard working and caring husband, and two daughters ages 14 and 11. Her 14-year-old daughter has Rett Syndrome, and is involved with a special foundation called “Pets for Retts” that was created to support research to find a cure for Rett Syndrome. She also has 4 dogs: Brutus, Ingrid, Debbie Harry and Sidney as well as two cats: Spud and Midnight.
