Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Pearson, or Doc for short, has been a veterinarian for 20 years. He is a west Texas native having grown up in the Texas Panhandle. Although he graduated from Keyes High School in the Oklahoma Panhandle, Doc has lived most of his life here in the Amarillo area. His college days were spent in Utah and College Station Texas, interrupted only by the amazing two years he spent in South America on a mission for his church. Doc knew by age 14 that he wanted to be a veterinarian and so it was no surprise when he set his sights for vet school and graduated from Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. He and Dr. Olsen owned a mixed animal (cats, dogs, horses, cattle) veterinary practice in Kansas for seven years before moving to Amarillo to be closer to family. While Doc started as a veterinarian for the mixed animal practice, he prefers focusing on providing total veterinary care for dogs, cats, birds, pocket pets, reptiles and small exotics. He is also the on-call veterinarian for the Amarillo City Zoo where he works closely with the zooÂ’s curator in treating and caring for the zoo animals. Doc loves all aspects of veterinary care, but he is known for his expertise in orthopedic surgery and pet dentistry. As the premier veterinary dentist in the area, he enjoys performing root canals, vital pulpectomies, surgical extractions and even orthodontics. When not piloting the Ark with Dr. Olsen, Doc enjoys serious bicycling (road, mountain and early morning spinning at the gym). ItÂ’s nothing for Doc to make a day out of biking up and down the areaÂ’s canyons or doing a sweet and easy 20-30 miles on the road. His longest road race was the MS 150 which totaled 150 miles, 100 the first day and 50 the second! His 2013 biking challenge will be the LukeÂ’s 5-Line where he will ride through five states in one day. Doc is also fascinated by the science of astronomy and is building his own telescope from the bottom up. It has a mirror of 12 1/2 inches that he has polished by hand. He successfully completed the building of his sonÂ’s telescope which has a 6 inch mirror. He also currently enjoys target shooting and reloading.
