Veterinarian Overview

Dr. Theresa G. Peace joined Locke A. Taylor Veterinary Hospital in 2006. As a doctor of veterinary medicine and certified veterinary acupuncturist, Dr. Peace offers a diverse array of medical care for her patients. She says that she's "always been interested in medicine, especially when receiving inoculations for traveling overseas," but that she dedicated her life to veterinary medicine over pediatrics because of her love of animals—particularly dogs and horses. Dr. Peace earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1986 from Virginia Tech's Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She's been practicing animal care for nearly 30 years, a third of which has been spent at Dr. Taylor's office. Her professional interests include complementary medicine and public health and regulatory medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the American Association of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Peace shares her time with her dogs, cats and horses. She appreciates the beauty of dogs and horses, particularly how they work jobs they were designed to do, like field work and plowing/pulling. She enjoys dog show events, particularly field work and conformation. Dr. Peace has certified therapy dogs and enjoys practicing therapy work. Her passion and dedication to animal care has earned her an opportunity to appear on the television show "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe.

Dr. Peace was our vet when I lived in Richmond. She was amazing with our two cats and our dog, helping us through an emergency situation when our puppy had an anaphylactic reaction to her first set of vaccines and stated with her until she was 100% certain she was safe and well. We had an unfortunate loss with our cat after Dr. Peace found a malignant tumor in her intestines, which resulted in us having to make the unfortunate decision of euthanasia. But, Dr. Peace was so caring, so calm, not in a rush. It made the experience so peaceful for both our fur baby and our family. We’ve missed Dr. Peace since moving from the area. I saw her name here and had to take a few minutes to say how truly wonderful she is.

We have used Dr Peace for many years and plan on continuing as long as she practices. She is one of the most caring, compassionate, helpful, and professional vets we've ever come across. She has faced many situations with our pets and always provides the best medical advice, even if she has to send us elsewhere for specialized care. If you have the opportunity to meet her and let her take care of your furry family member(s), I'm sure you'll feel the same!
