Veterinarian Overview
Doctor Gunnoe was born in Charleston, West Virginia. He attended West Virginia University/Tech. and West Virginia University during his three undergraduate years, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Tuskegee University in Alabama in 1981, graduating with honors. During his years at Tuskegee, Dr. Gunnoe developed his interest in surgery (soft tissue and orthopedic). In 1984 he founded Animal Care Veterinary Hospital. Starting out as a solo practitioner with 2 employees, the hospital has since grown into a five doctor, 25 employee practice. As the practice continued to grow, we moved into our new hospital in 1993 and shortened the name to Animal Care Associates. Affiliation with AAHA ( American Animal Hospital Association) was also established in 1993. Animal Care Associates is one of only a few hospitals in the whole state of WV to have this affiliation.Animal Care has always treated a wide variety of animals including dogs, cats, birds and exotics. We continue this commitment today. Dr. Gunnoe is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and American Animal Hospital Association. He served on the Kanawha/Charleston Humane Association Board of Directors for twenty years. During this time he was instrumental in the establishment of the Humane Society's Early Spay/Neuter program and mandatory spay/neuter of animals before adoption. During his tenure on the Humane Society Board, Dr. Gunnoe was recognized by The Charleston Gazette along with local building contractor and Board member Rodger Monk in developing and overseeing the construction of the new animal shelter that stands today. Dr. Gunnoe also served as Board president for three years and guided the animal shelter through two major destructive floods. It was a busy 20 years! Dr. Gunnoe is now enjoying retirement with his wife Robin and three children in South Charleston. His menagerie consists of a Yellow Lab, 2 French Bulldogs, a shelter cat, Flemish Giant rabbits, chickens, ducks, swans and Koi fish.
