Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Carol Samson was born in Pennsylvania. Her family always had a wide variety of pets. She became interested in a career in veterinary medicine while participating in a 4H club for dog training. Her family moved to Arizona when she was thirteen. She graduated from Saguaro HIgh School in Scottsdale (three years before Dr Halver). She returned to Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Behavior in 1974 from Bucknell University. She graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1978. After completing an internship and practicing in rural Pennsylvania for two years, she moved back to Arizona in 1981 to be closer to her large and entertaining family. She brought along a dog, two cats and a horse acquired in Pennsylvania. Much of her career has been devoted to emergency and critical care medicine, including seventeen years with Paradise Valley Emergency Animal Clinic and nine years with Sonora Veterinary Specialists. In recent years she has succumbed to the more subtle charms of family practice. She appreciates the longer term relationships with patients and clients. She knows the wonderful improvement that can be made in pets lives by addressing an elderly retrievers arthritis, or a cats abscessed teeth. She is interested in minimizing stress for the patient (and therefore the client and staff). She shares her home in Cave Creek with three rescued dogs and a fluid group of her own and foster cats. She enjoys birdwatching, exploring Arizona, and intermittently revising an unpublished mystery novel. Her adult son lives in Scottsdale. She is delighted to join the staff at Animal Care Hospital, where she feels very much at home.
