Veterinarian Overview
Cody Alcott has a long and extensive background in both small and large animal medicine and specifically neurology. After he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Alcott pursued primary care practice in California working on dogs, cats and horses. He was given the opportunity to pursue a residency in large animal medicine back at Iowa State. After completing his residency and becoming board certified in Internal Medicine, he was asked to stay on as part of the teaching faculty as an Equine Medicine Clinician at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center teaching hospital for the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. It was during this time at Iowa State that he decided to pursue his love of neurology and neurosurgery, so he completed a neurology residency there while fulfilling his teaching duties. Dr. Alcott has done extensive research, receiving over $76,000 in grant money, has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers as well as given numerous lectures while at Iowa State. As much as he loved his time in Ames and all of those years in an academic setting, private specialty practice is what he longed to return to. He and his wife, Portia (a primary care veterinarian), along with their three children and multiple four legged members of their family, are thrilled to make Tucson their new home (our warm and sunny Arizona climate is an added advantage after their years in the upper Midwest!)
