Veterinarian Overview
Dr. JT Walker grew up in Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University in 2004. After spending 5 years in private practice as a primary care veterinarian in Oklahoma working for a mentor who was the greatest influence on him becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Walker decided to specialize in the area of small animal surgery. He completed a general small animal internship in medicine and surgery as well as a specialized internship in Small Animal Surgery at a large multi-specialty private practice in Florida. In addition to receiving great training in Florida, he also met his future wife there! Not being able to stay away from Oklahoma for too long, Dr. Walker returned to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University where he completed his Small Animal Surgical Residency and his Master of Science Degree. He so impressed the doctors and staff at OSU that he was hired as a faculty lecturer in Small Animal Surgery to assist in teaching the veterinary students. Dr. Walker received several notable awards recognizing his surgical proficiency during his time as a veterinary student, as well as his time in primary care veterinary practice in Oklahoma where he served on several committees with the Oklahoma State Veterinary Medical Association who honored him in 2007 with the OVMA Young Veterinarian of the Year Award. Although Dr. Walker enjoys all aspects of veterinary small animal surgery, he has a particular love for orthopedics and has pursued advanced training and expertise in minimally invasive joint surgery (arthroscopy) and fracture repair techniques. We at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson feel extremely fortunate to have him join our staff and he is equally as excited to bring his expertise to the pets of southern Arizona. Dr. Walker and his wife, Brunella, are also looking forward to establishing their new home in Tucson, where the threat of tornadoes is pretty low!
