Dear Drs Remmington and Hubbard:
We are the proud family of a Timneh African Grey we purchased from you in 2009. We named him Sir Isaac Newton. (His friends call him Newton.) We have continued to enjoy his presence in our homes now for 13 years. He is well and, we think, happy with his home.
We are Ruth and Richard Dudley. In 2013 we moved from our home in Orlando to a retirement community in Orange City, FL where we live independently. We are currently in good health.
Because we are in our early 90s, we are becoming concerned about how long we will be able to adequately care for Newton. At present our children are not really interested in adopting him.
By Googling “Parrot Rescue Florida” we turned up a mind boggling myriad of websites that offer varieties of opportunities and donations to accept parrots and carry out “re-homing” placements. We plan to visit some within manageable driving distances from our current home to get impressions. If there are others farther away we may ask our kids to accompany us to visit others. (They live in the Northeast and only make occasional visits).
We trust and respect your opinions. Our reason for contacting you is to ask your advice on finding a trustworthy organization where we can expect conscientious placement or long term care of our beloved Newton. We would appreciate any general advice on how to evaluate a site, your recommendations about specific reliable organizations, and ones to avoid.
We want to develop a plan to carry out when we think the time is right and/or provide our heirs with our wishes for them to carry out when we are unable to do so.
