Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Serena Turner joined Fairway Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian in June 2001, after graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine. She worked as a veterinary assistant and technician at Red Bridge Animal Clinic in south Kansas City for 12 years prior to and during her veterinary education. Dr. Turner is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AVMA), KCVMA, American Animal Hospital Association, and SASSY (Saving Animals by Supportive Seniors and Others Young-at-Heart). Her professional interests include canine and feline internal medicine, ophthalmology and orthopedics. Serena was raised amidst a menagerie of pets! Dogs, cats, birds, fish, gerbils, guinea pigs, and even horses were some of her earliest patients, and inspired her pursuit of a career as a veterinarian. The current Turner household pets include Shaylee and Iris, both female Cavalier King Charles Spaniels; Chloe, the long haired chihuahua; Slick, a 13 year old male orange and white DSH (domestic short hair); Harry the Guinea Pig, also orange and white and perhaps the most high maintenance of them all!! Last but not least two Betas, Max and Hooper. Dr. Turner and her husband, Brian, live in the Brookside area of Kansas City, Missouri. They have three busy children, Nora age 9, Cate age 7, and Elliot age 5. The girls are in third and second grade at Visitation Catholic School, and Elliot will finally be at Visitation this year, starting Kindergarten!! Serena enjoys spending time with her family, and being involved in all of their many activities. This year coaching 3rd grade girls volleyball! Her other interests include vegetarian cooking, gardening and caring for many house plants, endlessly working on her 100 year + house, and being active in her parish and school, Visitation Catholic Church. When she and Brian can get away, they enjoy spending time at their cabin in the Missouri Ozarks, where hiking, fishing, relaxing, and watching the kids and pets enjoy their freedom are favorite pastimes.
