Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Johanna Ecke said she always had a special connection with animals. Their presence in her life motivated her to become a veterinarian. "I was always finding and rescuing stray animals and injured wildlife even injured bugs!" she says. After graduating from Tulane University, where she majored in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and French, she worked as a veterinary assistant at Magazine Street Animal Clinic until she left in 2007 to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. She graduated in the top 10 percent of her class from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science. Her focus is on chronic pain management, acupuncture rehabilitation, and preventive medicine. Johanna practices medicine from the heart. "I love watching my patients grow up and seeing the special bonds they share with their families. Being able to help and support my patients and their families through all of their highs and lows is extremely rewarding," she says when describing the connection she has with her patients. "I believe that the comfort and quality of the life of our pets should be of utmost importance, and they are always at the forefront of my mind." She shares her life with four dogs Alesia, a hound mix that was adopted from the LA-SPCA; Bella, a shepherd mix that was found as a stray; Tigger, a boxer/pit bull mix (also adopted); and Bucky, a pitbull mix who never stops being happy or playful. Also in the mix are Button, an angora/lop mix, and two guinea pigs named Chuck and Artichoke.
