Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Chad Lakey grew up in eastern NC gaining a vast experience in both large and small animal medicine. Prior to and during his college years he volunteered and worked at mixed animal practices in Kenansville, N.C. and Apex, N.C. in preparation for his application to veterinary school. He graduated from N.C. State (GO PACK!) in 2004 with a degree in Animal Science and originally wanted to be swine veterinarian ("pig vet") and move back home. He soon "wised up" and his interest shifted to mixed animal medicine (horses, cows, dogs, and cats) before attending veterinary school at NC State (again, GO PACK!). He graduated in 2009 and joined Dr. Gilyard at Clemmons Veterinary Clinic. When Dr. Lakey isn't working, you can probably find him playing golf course or doing farm chores. His wife Kelly is an avid horseback rider and photographer. She is responsible for the beautiful pictures on our website! Together they have two children, Addison and Parker. They live in Davie county with their "herd" of animals: 3 Great Danes and a Golden Retriever, 3 cats, and 4 horses! The 3 danes are all rescues, one of which survived Parvovirus infection. Dr. Lakey's professional interests include surgery, endocrinology (Cushing's disease, Addison's disesase, Diabetes), and allergy management (chronic skin disease, recurrent ear infections, feet-licking).
