Dr Backus provided a mobile euthanasia service for my dog Gabriel on 11/29/22. She suggested that because he was close to passing away we skip the sedation. She then injected him with a blue liquid, and he clearly felt extreme pain and tried to snap at her before dying. Just for context, this should NEVER happen. I paid her (extra—I didn’t want to wait for change) and she left. I’ve submitted a report to the licensing board and I hope this never happens to anyone else again. Sorry Gabe. :(
Dr Paula Backus returned my call within a few minutes when I was looking for a vet to come to my home for my end of life cat. She came within 30 minutes and was so very kind and gentle to my cat and myself and daughter. She did not rush anything and explained everything. She was very loving and kind and treated my cat as if she was her own family member. The process was very calm and peaceful. After my cat was gone, she didn't rush to take her away. She also let me know that my cat definately had cancer as I suspected. When I was ready, she gently wrapped my cat in a towel she had brought and carried her out like she was a newborn baby. Her prices were very reasonable. Even less than the vet's I had called to try to get her in today but no one could take her in today except Dr Backus.. I highly recommend her. Thank you Dr Backus, for everything.
I was extremely appreciative of Dr. Backus's care during our time of need when our 17 year old Poodle was in distress and the time to end her suffering had arrived. Dr. Backus made this transition a compassionate and sacred one. I will never forget the care she provided. I would not hesitate to use her in the future if needed, and I highly recommend her for end of life issues. When I spoke with my regular veterinarian, Dr. Poet, he also concurred, spoke highly of her and was grateful that she was able to be there for us.
Dr. Paula was exceptional with her soothing presence, recommendations, and end of life services for our beloved 17 year old dog. She responded within an hour of me calling and leaving a message on her phone. My husband and I are extremely grateful for her accompaniment during this very tender time. She held the space beautifully and brought us all great relief. I highly recommend her services.
I used Dr. Backus a year ago when it was time to say goodbye to our sweet dog- Kuma. Her care, compassion and kindness made navigating a very difficult decision manageable Our boy had a gentle and peaceful death here at home with us petting him and telling him how much we loved him. Dr. Backus made the most difficult day of our lives so much easier than it could have been. She's an incredible human being. She was kind, gentle, explained everything in detail beforehand, and gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye to my best friend. Legitimately the best vet experience we've ever had, and we've had animals for decades. Thank you, Dr. Backus. 💜💜💜💜
10/8/21 Couldn't have asked for a more peaceful, caring and compassionate experience having Paula euthanize my dear older dog.
Would not recommend her for home euthanasia visits. Rushed and man handled my precious fur baby
