On Thursday December 11, 2020, we made the very difficult decision to have our 14 year old chihuahua, Tasha, be euthanized. It was a very hard decision for us to make, altho we had been treated so well at this clinic before and had no qualms about having this done there. So I called the office that morning, there were no available appointments, but we could bring her in to the ER clinic. I said, ok, and could I be there with her and hold her while she passed, I was put on hold for a brief time and when the receptionist came back, I was told no, I would not be allowed to do this. But maybe if I called back that evening after 6 pm, that
ER vet would maybe let me come in. Maybe. I would have worn a mask, I would have worn a hazmat suit if needed to make sure my little girl had me there to hold and comfort her as she died. I can not believe you "compassionate", "we love your pets!" veterinarians would deny this of me for my Tasha.
We called the vet that we had in Sioux City before we moved to Sioux Falls, Dr. Michelle Bader, and she didn't even hesitate, "Bring her to me." she said .So we drove the 45 minutes to her and she caringly sent her on her way. With me holding her and petting her, and telling her how much she was loved. And shared memories of Tasha that made us smile. THAT is a compassionate, caring, veterinarian. Shame on you for not allowing people in to comfort their pets in their hour of death. Just shame on you. I hope and pray you change your thoughts and start letting folks in at this time.
