Veterinarian Overview

Dr. McClimon has always had an affinity with animals and enjoyed caring for them but when he began working in a veterinary practice and realized the special character of pet owners it solidified his goal of becoming a veterinarian. As he put it, “Pet owners are a selfless group of people who make caring for animals even more rewarding.” He graduated from Luther College in 1999 with a double major in Chemistry and Biology and then graduated with distinction from Iowa State University in 2003 with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After a year in a multi-doctor general practice, he began practicing emergency and critical care medicine. This intensely challenging environment helped to hone his medical and surgical skills treating the most critically sick and injured pets. Although very stressful, he is proud of the years he spent supporting people and helping pets through some of the worst events in their lives. But the emotional and physical strain convinced him to return to general practice and wellness care, or as he said “Over 13 years of ER work I have seen just about everything twice but now look forward to keeping animals healthy and out of the ER.” When Dr. McClimon was introduced to the Taylor Veterinary Clinic, he realized the opportunity Dr. Taylor’s retirement was creating and was honored to accept the torch of care. Along with the great staff, he intends to continue the high standard of care and service that the Taylor Veterinary Clinic stands for and looks forward to building relationships with his new clients and patients. Dr. McClimon is married to his beautiful wife Wendy and has two children. Addison, a third-grader at Spring Hill, and a 5-year-old son named Logan, who keep them busy with sports and activities. He enjoys running, biking, and woodworking, and looks forward to becoming more active in the Longview community. They have had a painful last year losing Belle, a 15-year-old black lab and Coco, a 19-year-old chinchilla, leaving only Amaya, their 12-year-old australian shepherd to love.
