Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Deutsch is a Northern Virginia native, having graduated from O'Connell High School in Arlington. He received his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech in 1980. Dr. Deutsch was a member of the second class to be admitted to the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1985. Dr. Deutsch's background in working with animals is diverse indeed, as he spent his college summers working on a cattle ranch in Texas, has worked on a dairy farm, and as a full time veterinary technician in several small animal hospitals in Northern Virginia prior to becoming a veterinarian. Dr. Deutsch has extensive experience in emergency and critical care medicine and surgery gained while working as the staff veterinarian at the Tidewater Emergency Clinic in Newport News, Virginia. He is a member of the Northern Virginia, Virginia State, and American Veterinary Medical Associations, the American Animal Hospital Association, the District of Columbia Academy for Continuing Education, and the American Heartworm Society. Department of Agriculture Accreditation Dr. Deutsch is accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture. This special designation of "accredited veterinarian" allows the doctor to provide services beyond those of general practice. Mentor of the Year Dr. Deutsch received the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association's "Mentor of the Year" award for 2008 by providing students at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine with the proper guidance and help that will allow them to become outstanding veterinarians in the future. By helping them, we enhance the care of our pets in the future.
