Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Kusterbeck has always enjoyed the company of animals, developing a close bond with them at a young age. Dr. Kusterbeck grew up in the Washington, D.C. area. As a teenager, he lost a beloved family dog due to an acute illness, an event that motivated him to pursue a career combining his passion for science with his love of animal care.After graduating with a BachelorÍs of Science from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, Dr. Kusterbeck went to the University of GeorgiaÍs College of Veterinary Medicine, earning his veterinary degree in 1982. He moved with his wife Anne to northern Virginia to begin his veterinary career. His passion for veterinary medicine and love of animalshas led him to his current position where he serves clients daily as Owner and Medical Director of Ridge Lake Animal Hospital.Dr. Kusterbeck enjoys the many roles he plays as a veterinarian, including being a petÍs diagnostician, pharmacist, dentist, surgeon, parasite control specialist, and advocate. The challenge of managing these different tasks certainly keeps him on his toes! He is proud to be living his dream of taking care of animals by preventing disease, diagnosing and treating illnesses, and alleviating suffering.Dr. KusterbeckÍs accomplishments continue past his schooling and degreeshe is former President of the Prince William VMA (Veterinary Medical Association), and former President of the D.C. Academy of Continuing Education.Outside of his veterinary career, Dr. Kusterbeck enjoys fishing, camping, and gardening. He is fascinated with traveling, and loves to visit new places and meet new people. His wife Anne is a Research Scientist for the U.S. Navy. Together, they have three childrenJeff, who loves literature, history, and video games; Valerie, a Paramedic, Firefighter, and camping and motorcycle enthusiast; and Nina, an artist. Dr. Kusterbeck and Anne have two dogs, Ginger and Izzy, along with Kiwi, a talkative African Gray Parrot.
