Veterinarian Overview
In 1981, Dr. Donner graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia, where she earned her DVM. She completed her surgical and medical internship at the University of Pennsylvania in 1982, and her surgical residency at the University of Florida in 1987. She has been a board certified specialist in surgery (a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, DACVS) since 1988. Today, Dr. Donner specializes in surgical oncology (the surgical treatment of cancers and tumors) and general soft tissue surgery. She was the first veterinary surgeon to specialize in surgical oncology in a private practice referral setting. Dr. Donners particular areas of interest include head and neck cancer surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Her caseload also includes cancers of the limbs and trunk, chest, abdomen, and urogenital system, as well as other soft tissue disorders and injuries. She performs all of her surgeries using magnification and microsurgical instrumentation, for the utmost in precision to achieve the best possible outcome. Dr. Donner pioneered the surgical technique that combines the removal of tumors with the implantation of chemotherapy beads. This eliminates the need for post-operative radiation in many small animal oncology cases. Her knowledge continues to evolve, and she regularly shares her expertise with colleagues. She recently presented two new surgical oncology techniques during the prestigious American College of Veterinary Surgeons annual meeting.
