Veterinarian Overview
The Helix Pet Hospital was established in 1961 by Dr. Howard. Dr. Peter Dowell bought the practice in 2005 from Dr. Doug MacDonald, the previous owner for 17 years. The hospital has extensively updated all the tools and equipment. The practice philosophy is to provide old fashioned compassion with cutting edge knowledge. In addition to digital radiographs, the entire computer system and in house lab equipment has been re-upgraded this past Summer. The property was recently purchased so watch for coming improvements in the real estate and surroundings. Dr. Peter Dowell was born in New York and raised in Great Britain and San Diego. He graduated with High Honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1984 and then attended the University of Minnesota graduating in 1988 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and as a member of Phi Zeta the national veterinary honor society. He subsequently completed a one-year small animal Matching Program internship at a large referral hospital in Los Angeles. Having bought Adlers Vet Hospital which was started in 1986, he owned and renovated the Covington Creek Veterinary Hospital in Mendocino in 1997 . In 2005 he was admitted to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the United Kingdom. He maintains memberships in the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and is currently the owner of The Helix Pet Hospital.
