Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Sakai earned her Bachelors degree from UC Berkeley in 2003 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2007. Following an internship in New Jersey, Dr. Sakai completed her residency in veterinary dermatology at Iowa State University. Dr. Sakai is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Sakai has a special interest in otology (ears) , particularly challenging clinical cases such as Pseudomonas otitis, methicillin resistant Staphylococcal otitis, and managing ear disease in allergic patients. During her dermatology residency at Iowa State University, Dr. Sakai received extensive training in video otoscopy procedures including deep ear canal examination and flushing, myringotomy, middle ear fluid sample collection, middle ear flushing, and biopsy of ear canal masses. Dr. Sakai enjoys working with primary care veterinarians and pet owners to improve the quality of life in patients with chronic skin problems such as allergies, autoimmune disease, endocrine disease, and more. She and her husband have a food allergic yellow lab named Tule. During her free time, Dr. Sakai enjoys cooking, reading, outdoor activities, and lap swimming.
