Veterinarian Overview
I was first hired at the Arguello Pet Hospital in the summer of 1968. I was hired as a kennel person to gain experience in veterinary medicine which was a prerequisite to apply to the veterinary schools. I continued working at Arguello Pet Hospital while I was an undergraduate student at the University of California, Davis. I was fortunate to gain acceptance to the School of Veterinary Medicine, Davis and graduated in June 1974. After graduation, I immediately began working at the Arguello Pet Hospital as a veterinarian with Elmo Shropshire, DVM. In 1982, I purchased the practice from Elmo Shropshire. It was a one doctor, one technician and one receptionist veterinary hospital. I dedicated myself to practicing and providing quality medicine and client service. This dedication has enabled the hospital to grow to its present state of six doctors and a staff of over twenty employees. The entire staff is dedicated to provide compassionate care to our patients, their owners and to one another. My oldest daughter, Cecily, is a second grade school teacher in the Japanese Bilingual Bicultural Program at Rosa Parks in San Francisco. My youngest daughter, Jamie, graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Davis, in June 2008 and has since been practicing with me at Arguello Pet Hospital. After 40 years of practicing veterinary medicine at Arguello Pet Hospital, I developed several medical issues that required a medical leave of absence from July to December 2014. After this medical leave and seeing improved health, I had chosen to permanently retire from practicing veterinary medicine. I cannot adequately thank the many clients that supported me throughout all these years. I will sincerely miss our friendships and trust that was given to me. As of January 1, 2015, I have stopped seeing patients at APH. My daughter, Jamie Ina, has taken the position of Medical Director and Chief of Staff. However, I am still helping Jamie with the management of the APH. You may see me at the hospital but it is only in a managerial position.
