Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Sandy Block, our founder, has been serving the pets of the Tri-Valley area since 1990. She grew up in, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, New Jersey, a 4-year stay in Belgium before finally settling in Missouri. Fortunate to be mentored by her Aunt Gale and Uncle Bob (both veterinarians), her love for animals and veterinary medicine started when she was nine years old. She was a 4-H and FFA member and has always been an avid horsewoman. She earned her B.S. in Animal Science in 1984 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1988 from the University of Missouri. Her veterinary interests are: internal medicine, pain management, dentistry, animal behavior and encouraging pet caretakers to adopt ongoing preventative care and wellness plans for their pets. She is a member of several professional organizations, including: American Veterinary Medical Association American Animal Hospital Association California Veterinary Medical Association Contra Costa Veterinary Medical Association (executive board member) International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management American Association of Feline Practitioners Cat Friendly Practice Dr. Block serves as the veterinarian for the San Ramon Police Department K-9 unit; Bongo, Hector and Senna. She is the veterinarian for Dogs for Diabetics (an organization in Concord that trains medical alert service dogs for diabetics), works with CCI (Canine Companions for Independence) and Guide Dogs for the Blind. Dr. Block is a member of the Hall of Fame Board of Directors for Tony LaRussas Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF). Sandy is thrilled to be serving the community she lives in with her husband, David, and sons, Austin and Peyton. Her pets are Allie, a yellow lab rescue and Harley, a career-changed D4D black lab. In her spare time Dr. Block is an avid hiker, camper, and horseback rider. She also enjoys cooking, reading and photography. She is actively involved in the community including being an assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 834. She belongs to the PTA, is a member at St. Joan of Arc, involved in Christian Family Movement, and supports Raptors Lacrosse and Cal High Track & Field.
